You: Artists Depict Themselves
October 7 - November 19, 2019

The Hopkinton Center for the Arts (HCA) seeks artwork for its upcoming juried fall exhibition called You: Artists depict themselves.   
Juried by Arthur Dion, Director Emeritus of Gallery NAGA in Boston.

The Theme:
In your work, we are asking you to contemplate these questions:

Who are you?
What are you like?
What do most people not know about you?
What is it like to be you – living in America now?

All of the works will be considered self-portraits whether or not they depict the artist’s physical appearance. 

Specifications:

Up to five artworks that have not been shown at HCA may be submitted. All 2D media may be entered, including photos, fiber art, and digital art. The work must be wired for hanging. Maximum height and width for framed wall hung work is 42 inches.

3D work may be entered if it is free standing (does not require a pedestal) or can be hung on the wall and does not protrude more than 10 inches. 

No sawtooth hangers or sandwich frames, giclee prints, copies, derivative, or electronic reproductions will be accepted.

 

Important Dates:
9/18/19, 5:30pm: Call Deadline 

9/20/19: Announcement of selected artworks

9/28/19: Art to be received via mail* or drop off. Drop off hours: Friday, 9/27, 4 - 7pm, and Saturday, 9/28, 10am - 1pm

10/7/19: Exhibition Opens 

10/11/19, 6 - 7:30pm: Opening Reception 

11/29 - 11/30/19: Art Pick Up. Hours: Friday, 11/29, 4 - 7pm, and Saturday, 11/30, 10am - 1pm

 *Non-local selected artists work must be received at the HCA, 98 Hayden Rowe St, Hopkinton, MA 01748 c/o exhibitions by September 28, 2019. Non-local artists are responsible for shipping costs both to and from the HCA, and are responsible for insuring their work while in transit. If shipping work, each artist must provide a pre-paid, UPS or FedEx return shipping label including insurance. Please pack your work in sturdy reusable packaging. The HCA carries appropriate insurance to cover all artwork in the show for the duration of the exhibition, including the time frame of drop-off, installation, de-installation and pick-up. 

Eligibility:
Artists of all ages are welcome to apply.

Submission Fee:
$10 per submission. Limit 5 submissions per artist. HCA members get a 20% discount off this price using code HCAmember. To become a member, please visit the HCA Membership page.

Accessibility: 
The HCA gallery spaces are fully accessible and we strive to make the exhibition submission process accessible to all artists as well. We encourage anyone to enter our open call exhibitions. Commission Structure: 
Artists receive 70% commission and the HCA receives 30% for art sold during the exhibition. The HCA may duplicate and reproduce images of work for purposes of public relations and exhibition announcements directly related to the exhibition. 

About the HCA: 
Serving individuals of all ages, cultures, and artistic abilities across the MetroWest region, the HCA develops artistic skills, offers outstanding artistic performances and exhibitions, and enables visitors to experience art in all forms. Under one roof, we celebrate art through classes and events in visual art, theater, music, dance, ceramics, writing, and film. 

In 2015 we opened our expanded art center, with a new exhibition space, a 200-seat performance space, and newly renovated classrooms. The Delbridge Family Performance Space and the Lotvin Family Gallery annually present dozens of productions and exhibitions by students and adults, amateurs and professionals. Created in 2011, HCA, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community arts center, fosters and celebrates the creative spirit in everyone.
